i can totally understand why a lot of people are jumping on the ai ghibli trend and i am not so far gone as to be on the total ai death side of history (i routinely use machine learning tools to help myself with automating boring stuff) but idk man all of this still feels weird for me i am not even saying it in the “i feel like painters when photography was invented” kind of way but more in the “yeah we have a machine that spits out something that looks like art but it’s sad that it is inevitably limited by the defined set of data it is trained on with dubious authorisation and every single output basically looks the same” i honestly think i will feel different about “ai art” when and if we are going to have agi and get to the point where machines that, at the level of humans, are going to effectively make art to express themselves and how they experience life but right now this feels like idk squeezing content out of a tube, and it can work sometimes but it’s still weird for me
